How We Achieve Our Results
We gather significant data about the existing lighting by performing a lighting survey of the spaces within a business. This identifies existing lighting levels and quantifies the energy consumption. We discuss, with the owner, the lighting needs and goals of the business. We then develop a lighting plan to achieve the lighting design goals, achieve the best energy savings and highest utility incentive payment.
Where are the best energy saving opportunities?
The least efficient and highest maintenance cost lighting is High Intensity Discharge (HID). The second least efficient lighting is fluorescent. Both of these older lighting technologies are not energy efficient and require regular maintenance.
The High Intensity Discharge lighting consists of Metal Halide and Mercury Vapor lamps. These lights lose their luminosity quickly in their lifetime and have inefficient magnetic ballasts. They use a lot of power to produce light and generate a lot of heat. The ballast continues to use energy even if the lamp is burned out. A HID 1000W lamp with ballast uses approximately 1080 watts. This can be replaced with a 200 – 250 watt LED which produces more light and operates without maintenance for many years.
Our customers have stated that they expect to replace one third of all their HID lights each year, every year. These are usually located high off the floor and require a costly lift rental and an electrician to perform maintenance. Maintenance costs for HID lighting is very high. Replacement LED lights require zero or little maintenance for the long life of the product.
LED lighting for this application have lifetimes of 95,000 hours and have 10 year warranties.
Fluorescent lighting consists of lamps and ballast. Fluorescent lighting is not energy efficient and requires regular maintenance to replace lamps and ballasts. It has been eclipsed by LED technology which can provide improved lighting for approximately one half of the electricity consumption. Replacement LED lights require zero or little maintenance for the long life of the product.
LED lighting for this application have lifetimes of 80,000 hours and have 10 year warranties.
Incandescent lighting has the poorest efficiency of any lighting type. Most of the electricity used in an incandescent lamp is converted to heat, not light. Usually, these are screw-in lamps that can be changed without hiring an electrician. LED replacement of incandescent can reduce energy consumption by 85%. This energy savings can result in high incentive payments.
LED lighting for incandescent replacement have a lifetime of 25,000 to 40,000 hours and have a 5 year warranty.
We use certified products for our projects
The products we use are safety certified by UL, ETL or CSA. These agencies determine if a product design and materials used are electrically safe to use.
Our products are also certified by DLC or Energy Star to verify that the products perform as advertised and can be expected to be reliable.
